Back in late December 2017, I was asked by some friends if I could offer some advice and assistance as I appear to have become the Go-To whenever things go wrong with it's fixing stuff or assisting with consumer issues like this sorry case. They'd bought the unit back in March 2017 and it failed several weeks later so they returned to STB to get it sorted. STB had removed the stereo, presumably for repair/replacement but from that point, they never saw it again, despite numerous calls to ask what was going on and when it was going to get fixed but all they got were excuses including lost by Kenwood, the manufacturer. While in hindsight, I should have declined, I agreed to both support and try and mediate a resolution but despite 8 months plus and nothing but excuses, the dealer felt that Consumer Rights Act 2015 didn't apply and refused to budge saying he'll just have to wait. I suggested my friend involves his credit card via a section 75 claim since to date, STB had refused point blank to return his money, despite the fact he still had the stereo. Without going into the details too much, despite having passed this to MBNA, STB were now asking my friend for his which might have made sense in the case of a refund from STB but this was now in the hands of the card company and I recommended he decline. At this point (and STB gave me the idea), I thought that a review might be in order as I really felt this was a dealer in need of a little exposure. I'm a polite fellow so contacted STB to let them know and instantly, Simon, the owner became defensive, demanding that both myself and his customer return to garage so he could refund my friend but more importantly, ensure I remove the review which made a condition of the refund (what is that called?) He insisted that I must come as my friend had now put this matter entirely in my control but my better half begged me not to go as we hadn't got a clue what we'd be walking into and said I should leave this alone and it was my friends problem who'd wasted enough of our time already and I'd already gone well beyond the call of duty. To be clear, I didn't post the review to provoke a refund, I posted this as I believed it is in the public's interested as based on this ordeal, I really felt this was one dealer to be very wary of but STB was not finished. I guess they really weren't happy about my review, despite being entirely factually correct. I think they must have threatened my friends as I'd had a number of texts saying they wouldn't refund until I'd removed the review but remember, a refund was we'd been asking for. This later developed and yesterday, despite Sussex Police saying they wouldn't get involved in 'review' disputes and clearly being outside their remit, I got a call to tell me there had in fact been a complaint but it has now been closed as I'd gone quiet and providing I don't leave anymore reviews or call STB, that was the end of it. I don't know how others feel but using the police in retaliation and intimating your customers with police threats to avoid a refund is not exactly professional but I'm sure others will have their own opinions. Now I'll admit, many people wouldn't help their friend to the extent that I have and I've helped these friends on countless occasions from consumer advice and assistance like this to fixing their PC and repairing guitars and amps. I don't do this for financial gain and simply like helping people but according to Sussex Police, at least in this case, that is a crime and I had no right to get involved since I wasn't a customer. I guess that in future, I must remain distant when someones in trouble and rather than get involved, I must pull out a camera and put it on YouTube. What a charming society we live in ;-)

I’m not the one to post reviews whether negative or positive but when credit is deserved, it must be given. I have been coming to Sounds the Business for about 11yrs and Simon has blessed around 6 or 7 of my vehicles. Unlike many other similar establishments (that shall remain nameless), SBS welcomes everyone. Not only did he provide excellent and friendly customer service, but he also schooled me on a few other products and ideas as well, no matter how small or how large the work is, from personal experience he always look out for the best interest of the customer. The work done here is always phenomenal. On the rare chance I had to go back to get Simon to re-look at a previous work he is quick to jump on the issue right on the spot to resolve it and send me away very satisfied. This is an establishment that holds very good standards and I have had nothing less than a superb experience over the past and present. The prices seem fair and I have never had an issue in complaining costings on works carried out. Sounds the Business appears to go above and beyond to give the customer what they want. If you want professional no hassle long lasting work with excellent customer service, trust me Simon at SBS is worth it.
